Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026. We don't ask for your personal details, and we'll always ask before using advertising cookies.
Who we are
Cost To Run (this website) is run by an individual in the United Kingdom. Contact: costtorun@gmail.com.
Information stored on your device
The calculators remember your last choices (appliance, region, gas use) and a copy of today's energy rates in your browser's local storage, so pages load faster next time. This stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it in your browser settings.
Services that see your IP address
- Cloudflare hosts this site and processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and protect against attacks.
- Octopus Energy's public tariff data: your browser requests today's energy rates directly from Octopus Energy. No personal information is sent, but Octopus sees your IP address. We are not affiliated with Octopus Energy.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so Google receives your IP address when fonts load.
Advertising
We may show adverts provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, and may use them to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. If you're in the UK or EEA, we'll ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are used, through a consent message provided by Google, and you can change your choice at any time. See how Google uses data and manage personalised ads at adssettings.google.com.
Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly visitor statistics from our host that don't use cookies or identify you.
Emails
If you email us, we'll use your address only to reply.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access or delete your personal data. Contact costtorun@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
